Privacy Policy

This policy explains what AmortGrid collects, what it does not collect and the choices you have. It is written to meet the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA.

1. Information we collect

Calculator inputs are not collected. Amounts, rates, terms, income and debts are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to us; we do not see, log, store or profile them.

Technical and analytics data is collected. When you load a page we receive limited information: pages viewed, timestamps, the referring page or search engine, coarse location derived from your IP address, and details of your browser, operating system and device.

Advertising data. Advertising partners including Google set their own cookies and may collect information about your visits to this and other websites to select and measure advertising. We receive aggregate reports only, never your contact details.

Emails. If you email us, we receive your email address and your message.

Never requested. We never ask for your name, address, telephone number, account numbers, Social Security number, National Insurance number, credit report or financial documents; please do not send them.

2. Client-side processing of your inputs

Every calculator runs in your browser using JavaScript delivered with the page, so the arithmetic happens on your own device. Loan amounts, rates, terms, frequency, income, debts and deposits stay in your browser's memory, are never posted to a server, and disappear when you close or refresh the tab.

We hold no database of user calculations and could not retrieve your figures even if you asked; printing or saving a schedule creates a file on your device only. If we ever save recent inputs on your device, that data stays in your browser and is not accessible to us.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device so that a site can recognise a browser between visits; we also use pixels, local storage and device identifiers, which we refer to together as cookies.

We use three categories: strictly necessary cookies, which deliver the site securely and remember your choices; analytics cookies, which measure usage in aggregate; and advertising cookies, set by Google and other vendors to display and measure advertising, including personalised advertising based on prior visits.

Where the law requires it, including in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, we ask for consent before setting analytics or advertising cookies, and you may withdraw it at any time through the consent notice. Blocking cookies does not affect the calculators, which do not depend on them.

4. Google AdSense and third-party advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites, which enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve advertising here, allowing Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Google now implements this mainly through its DoubleClick and Google Ads cookies, including the cookie commonly named IDE, which serve the same purpose. Other vendors may do the same under their own policies.

5. How to opt out of personalised advertising

  • Digital Advertising Alliance (US): https://www.aboutads.info/choices/ to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies.
  • European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance: https://www.youronlinechoices.com/ to manage preferences for participating advertisers.
  • Your browser and device: block third-party cookies, use a private window, or enable your mobile operating system's ad limits.

Opting out does not remove advertising; it makes ads less relevant, and some partners may still use cookies for frequency capping and fraud prevention.

6. Analytics

We use web analytics to see which calculators are used and where the site fails. Whether we use Google Analytics 4 or a privacy-focused alternative, the data is of the same kind: a page address, a timestamp, a referring source, a coarse region derived from an IP address, and technical details about the browser and device.

We do not use it to identify you, and never combine it with calculator inputs. IP addresses may be truncated, hashed or discarded before storage, depending on the provider.

7. Legal bases for processing under the GDPR

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for analytics and advertising cookies, including personalised advertising. You may withdraw it at any time.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for strictly necessary cookies, site security, abuse prevention and aggregate measurement that does not identify individuals, which has minimal impact because we hold no accounts and no inputs.
  • Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) where we must keep records or answer a lawful request.
  • Contract (Article 6(1)(b)) where you email us and we need to reply.

8. Your rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold and receive a copy;
  • rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • erasure of your data, where no overriding legal reason applies;
  • restriction of processing while a dispute about your data is resolved;
  • portability of data you provided, in a machine-readable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing;
  • complain to a supervisory authority, such as the ICO in the UK or your EEA authority.

We do not carry out automated decision-making with legal effects, and because inputs never reach us we may hold no personal data about you at all.

9. Your rights under the CCPA and CPRA (California)

California residents may ask to know what personal information we collect, to delete or correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information, without discrimination for doing so.

We do not sell personal information for money. Because our advertising uses cookies for cross-context behavioural advertising, that activity may count as sharing, and in some interpretations as a sale, under California law. Opt out through the consent notice, the Google Ads Settings link above, or by emailing hello@amortgrid.com with the subject line Do Not Sell or Share. We honour browser opt-out signals such as the Global Privacy Control, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

10. Data retention

We do not retain calculator inputs, because we never receive them. Analytics records are kept for the period configured with our provider, typically no longer than 14 months. Advertising cookies persist on their providers' schedules; Google's expire after about 13 months. Emails are kept as long as needed to answer you, and deleted on request where no legal obligation applies.

11. International data transfers

Our providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries outside the EEA and the UK. Where personal data leaves those areas, providers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum and, where applicable, certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

12. Children's privacy

AmortGrid is intended for adults, is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect their personal information, consistent with COPPA in the United States and the UK GDPR. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Data security

The site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections. We collect very little, so little could be exposed in a breach: no account database, no stored calculation history, no payment information. We restrict access to our own accounts and will notify users and authorities of a breach where the law requires it.

14. Third-party links

Our guides link to third-party sites, including lenders, brokers and government agencies; some links are affiliate links. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and their policy applies once you follow a link.

15. Changes to this policy

Effective date: 27 September 2026.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the law or our providers, revising the effective date above and giving clear notice on this page for material changes. Where a change affects consent-based processing, we will ask for consent again first.

16. How to contact us about privacy

The data controller is the publisher of AmortGrid, who decides how and why personal data is processed on this site and who can be reached directly at the address below: hello@amortgrid.com. Put Privacy request in the subject line and tell us what you would like us to do. We respond within 30 days, or 45 days where California law permits an extension. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your supervisory authority.

17. Advertising and affiliate disclosure

This site is free to use and is funded by advertising and by referral relationships. We think you should know exactly how that works.

  • Display advertising. Advertisements are served by Google AdSense and other third-party networks. Advertisers pay these networks, and the networks pay us a share. We do not choose which individual ads appear on a page, and an advertisement is never an endorsement.
  • Affiliate links. Some outbound links, particularly to lenders, brokers and comparison services, are affiliate links. If you follow one and take out a product, we may receive a commission. This costs you nothing extra and does not change the price you are offered.
  • What this does not affect. A commercial relationship never changes a calculation, a formula or a published figure. Every number on this site comes from the same tested engine described on the methodology page, whether or not a page carries affiliate links. We do not accept payment to rank one provider above another, and we do not publish sponsored articles.
  • Our interest is disclosed, not hidden. If a page contains affiliate links, that is stated on the page itself as well as here.
